Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant

Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant

The Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant (EYPDG) is allocated to schools with children who come from low income families and are eligible for free school meals.  The aim of the funding is to accelerate the attainment of children of all abilities from low income households to help them reach their full potential.

At Gurnos Nursery School our EYPDG spend focuses on the following areas:

  1. Improving literacy and numeracy skills in both the indoor and outdoor classroom
  2. Improving children’s social and communication skills particularly early language development
  3. Developing links with parents and carers
  4. Improving transition arrangements with our Flying Start settings and feeder primary, Goetre Primary School

Our funding for 2016-2017 was £6,600. We used this additional funding to:

  • Provide specific high quality training for staff
  • Purchase high quality resources to compliment the training
  • Develop our outdoor classroom
  • Introduce and implement Nurture Groups
  • Improve attendance of target children by strengthening parent engagement
